That’s right.
According to a terrific article in the Washington Times by author David Keene, Steven Chu, that stalwart protector of your energy resources and tax dollars, was stating right up until the last moment that Solyndra was a success.
He said so 48 hours before the declaration of bankruptcy by Solyndra.
Want to hear the best part?
Last week, the Obama administration’s Department of Energy announced it is extending an $852 million loan guarantee to something called the Genesis Solar Project in California.
Genesis, according to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, will be built on federal land and ultimately employ perhaps 800 people during its construction and 47 people once it is up and running. This would seem to be a lot of money to generate very few jobs at a time when the nation is on the verge of bankruptcy, but the project really isn’t about jobs.
It’s the latest in the administration’s attempt to turn us away from dependence on fossil fuels regardless of cost and reality. This project, according to Mr. Chu, “will enable the deployment of clean, renewable sources at scale, which will help bring down the cost of solar power in the years to come.”
That’s right. More of your money down a very dark hole called solar power.
Why? It isn’t a problem because solar doesn’t work. It does work, though at a huge cost inefficiency, and that IS the problem.
The panels cost too much, cost more to mount and never seem to return the investment that the homeowner makes in them. But that shouldn’t be the issue if you ask the people who are in the industry or who support this initiative, no matter the idiocy of running your head into the same economic brick wall over and over.
Nope – you should do this because it is better for the planet, even if there is more and more evidence being provided by AGW defectors that as long ago as 1995 weather balloon data showed that there isn’t a greenhouse effect. Of course, according to Al Gore – the guy who bought the 9 million dollar mansion on the coast line that will be swallowed up by rising oceans (huh – bad investment there Al), even the people at NASA who just provided proof that the heat is indeed escaping from the atmosphere instead of being trapped in the greenhouse are bought and paid for pseudoscientists.
The problem that the left has with wind and solar energy is that it is too expensive to put in place, too expensive to maintain, takes up even more land and in the case of wind energy kills on average 440,000 birds (not a good thing for ecology) and raises costs on everyone – but most especially those on fixed and lower incomes.
Hard to balance out that whole Paul Ryan is throwing granny off the cliff being fiscally responsible and yet they are the party that wants to effectively triple the costs of energy on that same granny who might in reality need some serious juice for her medical equipment she has in her house to stay alive. But hey – with that nifty medical plan coming soon to a neighborhood near you, she might not have that, so no biggie.
The left, unfortunately, believes that their vision, their beliefs should be worth more to you because their knowledge of how this is better for you than you think says it is so. You need to have solar and wind power even if you don’t think so and don’t want to buy it, slowing demand so the product doesn’t sell.
They don’t get it. Symbolism is so important. Green is good. Green is patriotic. Not profit green. More expensive green. They don’t understand why the message they have been putting forth from the holy mount doesn’t resonate when even states like Rhode Island turned down the idea of wind power due to the costs being so much higher on their constituents.
One of their greatest answers now? Controlling your power usage through the smart grid where they can tell you without you being able to do a thing about it how to set your own thermostat – even if you CAN afford the higher prices and WANT to pay to keep your house cold during the summer.
They don’t see how the leftist contingent of people is creating more and more of a problem with older power plants that can’t get extensions, newer plants that can’t get built, a power grid about to lose many plants due to EPA regulations, alternative energy that is costly and will drive the costs through the roof on most people while not returning the investment to the taxpayers. On top of that, there are branches of the leftist ideology who’s sue happy tendencies are not only delaying power plants being built, power lines from going up, but also alternative energy sources from being built and power lines from THOSE sources getting to the people of this country who need it.
Heck – Iran gets nuclear power before you do.
Hey – maybe stop regulating and taxing so much that the profits start drying up and let the companies either retrofit their plants with additional money they have in the kitty or let them build new plants with all the latest and greatest filters, scrubbers and what not without having to go through an AVERAGE of 15 years to build a new facility.
When is Congress and the Presidency going to abandon a few shrill voices who continue to fight even their own clean energy initiatives, not caring a whit about their fellow humans and the rolling blackouts they are going to induce upon their neighbors? When does a small percentage of a very vocal group have their foot taken off the throat of the American power grid?
Frankly this is another monstrous payout to someone that needs to be investigated to see if this is another pay to play situation.
Just a week after the black hole known as Solyndra shut down, we are getting ready to dump not just close to a half a billion dollars into another black hole, but heck, let’s increase that ANOTHER 41%. Obviously it was just we didn’t send enough money to those last backers of Obama.
We can’t afford these boondoggles – and this is the energy field’s Amtrak. Stop the madness now. Write to Darrell Issa and ask for him to get the information on communications between Genesis and DC and find out if there are shady dealings.
Especially before the emails and communications get destroyed – like the ones between DC and Solyndra did.
