We told metformin 1000 mg pill you it would happen.  We warned you that if they got their paws on our health care they would start telling us how skinny or how fat we could or should be.  Now, Mrs. Obama, the epitome of perfection in all things has started the ball rolling with her Fat Kids are a National Security Risk and it has snowballed into The Healthy Choices Act, which was introduced by introduced  Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

According to a CNSNews.com article from May 13:

States receiving federal grants provided for in the bill would be required to annually track the Body Mass Index of all children ages 2 through 18. The grant-receiving states would be required to mandate that all health care providers in the state determine the Body Mass Index of all their patients in the 2-to-18 age bracket and then report that information to the state government. The state government, in turn, would be required to report the information to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for analysis.

The Healthy Choices Act–introduced by Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee–would establish and fund a wide range of programs and regulations aimed at reducing obesity rates by such means as putting nutritional labels on the front of food products, subsidizing businesses that provide fresh fruits and vegetables, and collecting BMI measurements of patients and counseling those that are overweight or obese.

I’ve mentioned the idea of putting the labels on the front of food products before; because obviously we’re all too stupid to pick up a package and turn it around.  And it is absolutely terrifying to me to have the government mandating regulations and programs aimed at reducing what THEY determine to be obesity in children.  What criteria are they going to use?  Why my daughter was born, she was 24″ long and weighed 13 pounds, 6 ounces.  The doctors never figured out what caused her weight to be so large; she never ever over ate as an infant either.  I shudder to think what Madame Obama and her little group of representatives would have done with my daughter; considering she remained in the upper 95th percentile or higher for the first 2 years of her life; regardless of what she ate or didn’t eat.  It was metabolic.  But, will Obamacare take this type of thing into consideration?  I just don’t know.

The article goes on to say:

Section 101 of the bill amends the Public Health Services Act by stating that health care providers must record the Body Mass Index of all children ages 2 through 18.  “The provision relates to all children in states that accept grants under the bill,” a spokesperson for Rep. Kind told CNSNews.com. “However, it is important to note that no one is forced to come in for a doctor’s visit to get their BMI tested.  BMI will be taken at times when the child makes an otherwise scheduled doctor’s visit.”

Okay, great!  We take our kids in every 6 months to a year when they’re little.  So now the Obamadocs will take out their little calipers and pinch inches on our kidlets and report to the government that we’re unfit parents, right?

To pay for implementing BMI data gathering, Sec. 102 of the bill states that the federal government will give grants to states that meet certain criteria, including having “the capacity to store basic demographic information (including date of birth, gender and geographic area of residence), height, weight, and immunization data for each resident of the state.”

The grants also will pay for personnel and equipment necessary to measure patients’ BMI.

The grants also require that if a child’s BMI is greater than the 95th percentile for the child’s age and gender, the state will provide “information on how to lower BMI and information on state and local obesity prevention programs.”

That part really creeps me out.  I get visions of Big Brother, with a monitor in every residence, and a voice intoning, “Comrade, take that piece of bread away from junior.  He needs a big piece of tofu….CAKE!  NO CAKE! BEEEP-BEEEP-BEEEP”

Rep. Kind’s spokesperson did say that any reporting of the data generated from the information gathered would not include patients’ names.  ‘Syeah, like I believe THAT.

The bill also requires HHS to share with Congress and other government officials, including the secretaries of education and agriculture, its analysis of the BMI data collected not more than one year after it gathers all of the data from states.

This analysis, the bill states, would attempt to identify obesity trends in regions of the United States and how those trends vary according to gender and socioeconomic status–although the bill does not spell out how socioeconomic status of patients would be determined.

On May 6, the bill was referred to the House subcommittee on Highways and Transit.

Of course the bill is not specific; it has to leave room for interpretation; ie. for the government to be able to grab more and more control.  And why EXACTLY was the bill referred to the House subcommittee on Highways and Transit?  Can anyone tell me that?  This whole thing; this whole Obamanation is really starting (starting, I say with tongue firmly planted in my cheek) to give me the mega-willies.  I think it will be within a year that we will look back at today and think, “Ahh, yes… back then we had it so good.  We had so many freedoms that we took for granted.”

You might think I’m kidding, folks.  Don’t.  One final parting paragraph from the article I will leave you with:

At a press conference last week to announce the introduction of the bill, Kind emphasized it would help “busy American families.”

“Making the healthy choice the easy choice for our families is essential to ensuring our quality of life,” Kind said. “I am pleased to work on legislation that helps provide the opportunities that meet the needs of busy American families.”

My ass.  If you’ll pardon the expression.  They could not care less about the needs of busy American Families.  If they cared about busy American families, then they would simply BUTT OUT.

  1. I support legislation that allows me to make healthier choices for my family….as long as it is a ban on high fructose corn syrup, bleached white flour, white sugar, MSG, hydrogenated oils, and all those other chemical additives our government allows food companies to put in our food. Because if you think I’m going to support a program that chastizes me for the inches on my children you got another thing comin’!

    • You see, the key word in your response is ALLOW… you are already ALLOWED to make any CHOICE you want to make. What scares me is when things are MANDATED; which means CHOICE is taken out of the equation. If one company wants to use high fructose corn syrup (which really can’t hurt you, btw; in moderation) and bleached white flour while another wants to use natural brown sugar and whole wheat flour, then it should be MY choice which product to use. I do NOT want the government EVER to tell me which one to use; or to mandate that only certain products can be sold; or produced. Eventually, we will have it where only soy products are available and our grandchildren won’t even know what real bacon ever tasted like. How sad will that be? The bottom line is, the federal government has NO BUSINESS in any aspect of our personal lives. It should protect our borders (big laugh inserted here), manage the postal service (bigger laugh), and manage the military. That’s about it. The Obamanation is getting deeper and deeper into us and I am becoming more and more scared.

  2. Eventually, we will have it where only soy products are available

And people like me, who are allergic to soy, will not be able to find food they can eat. Or people w/ low blood pressure will not be able to get salt. Or people w/ intolerance to certain fats will not be able to get fats they can digest.

The thing Nunya and many others don’t understand is that the govt should not be in the business of allowing us to do anything. We are responsible to make our own choices, being busy doesn’t give us a pass. When we stop choosing for ourselves, we give up what it means to be human. And there are always a few (or more) tyrants waiting to choose for us and thereby enslave us. Oh, and then people with different needs quickly become expendable.

  3. Victoria Kamm says:

    Seriously?

    Nature abhors a vacuum.

Parents have given over their power to fast food and computer games and created a nutritional crisis that will result in children with reduced lifespans.

I don’t know about you but I don’t look forward to paying for that either through disability payments due to complications from diabetes or obesity or far less productivity of people who can’t think as clearly because their brains don’t get the right food.

You want government to “butt out”? Then help figure out how to fill the vacuum that parents created.

    Seriously.

  4. Are you kidding me? You are actually supporting allowing the GOVERNMENT to make the DECISIONS regarding the health of your children? Or to make the decisions regarding what you can or can NOT eat? If that is the way that you feel, then go live in England. In AMERICA, we have always had CHOICES. If we choose to live on fast food, then we choose to be unhealthy and FAT. (and ugly, and die young). But that is the power of CHOICE. The government cannot run AMTRAK, the Post Office, Social Security or any damned thing they have EVER touched. WHY would you imagine they can manage OUR HEALTH or DIETS? In no way should they have any say in what goes in our mouths. (or what comes OUT of them for that matter. But that is coming next, I fear)

  5. Brent Bielema says:

Simply despicable — especially when you consider that all the processed crap food is being subsidized with tax dollars. So GMO garbage is spread far and wide (sterilizing and sickening Americans), and even McDonald’s gets a subsidy for seeding its cancer overseas. Instead of tracking kids and adults like chipped cattle, let’s put all the politicians in a pen and let them ruminate for garbage. Take their pensions away, cut taxes and restore sound money. Ron Paul for President 2012. I’m sure the big media that got Obama elected can find him a suitable position there!

  6. I’m always happy that I decided to go to law school! At least the attorney-client privilege remains relatively sacred. The physician-patient privilege is obviously dead. To even propose such legislation is to concede that state regulation of physicians and the scope of the privilege they enjoy with patients is long dead.

  7. “I don’t know about you but I don’t look forward to paying for that either through disability payments due to complications from diabetes or obesity or far less productivity of people who can’t think as clearly because their brains don’t get the right food.”

That only flies in a government controlled country. If you are required to pay for the poor choices and misfortune of others, yes I can see how you would want the government to control everyone and force them to make the “right” choice. In a free country, the people who screw themselves are only hurting themselves. No one else is forced to pay for them.

  8. OK this fat kid law is f****** ridiculous i mean come on we live in america or a reason, if you want to government controling stuff like that then move to another country because you know what it is start with them wanting to control what we eat and it will more to bigger thing and eventulally it will be like living in a communist country. You know do the even think about people with kids that have health problem because some people it is not their fault that they are fat, and another thing they parents can try all they want to tell their kids what to eat and how to eat but we really don’t listen I know I didnt listen to my mother when she was telling me that stuff and once your kids become tennager all the stuff you told them goes out the window because you can’t be with your kids 24/7 to make sure they eat right. So BIG BROTHER BUTT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
