Last night an extraordinary thing happened.
During Obama’s televised spiel demanding passage of his onerous and heinous Health Care Reform bill, a Republican law maker called him on his veracity.
From FoxNews.com this morning,
The incident came directly after Obama said, “There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”
“You lie!” Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., shouted from his seat on the Republican side of the chamber.
What I find to be extraordinary is that a Republican actually had the huevos to say anything remotely definitive to the President. This almost never happens from “our” side. (And I do use the term loosely). “Our” side is usually too busy making sure that they NEVER insult, offend, back talk, or even sass anyone else for fear of being called “racist”, “homophobe”, “sexist”, “bigoted”, or any other offensive term.
Now the fun begins. According to Fox:
In the hours after Obama’s speech, Wilson’s Democratic opponent, former Marine Rob Miller, raised close to $100,000 in online contributions, Democratic sources told FOX News.
Fox goes on to say:
“Anybody who would cat-call the president of the United States addressing this body is very, very inappropriate, and he will hear from a lot of us about that,” Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Calif., told FOX News Radio.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Wilson’s behavior was “totally disrespectful. There is no place for it in that setting, or any other, and he should apologize for it immediately.”
Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois called it “crude and disrespectful.”
And Democratic Sen. Jim Clyburn, also of South Carolina, said Wilson “went beyond heckling.”
“That was probably one of the most-insulting things I’ve ever seen,” Clyburn told FOX News. “The people of South Carolina are not well-served by that.”
Here’s the kicker:
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said “I have never in my 29 years heard an outburst of that nature with reference to a president of the United States speaking as a guest of the House and Senate.”
REALLY????
From Michelle Malkin’s blog this morning:
And that’s what Democrats would undoubtedly tell you they were doing during George W. Bush’s 2005 State of the Union Speech when they booed and shouted down his remarks about the need for Social Security reform. Omri Ceren remembers:
I don’t even recall hearing ONE word about this. No outrage, no calling for censure, no mega-bucks going to Republican opponents, no demand for punishment by the Senate or the Congress. But, the Dems will and are certainly going to use this as another excuse to manufacture up some huge anger, insult, aggrievement, and any other feather-ruffled expression you can think of. Hoyer went on to add:
“It was a shameful act,” he told WTOP radio.
Hoyer said he’ll work with GOP lawmakers to decide whether to punish Wilson.
Yeah. Above all, we must detract from the main issue -- which is, OBAMA LIES! The Health Care Bill will cover illegal immigrants, require rationing and it will NOT be deficit neutral!
In my personal opinion, we should all send a few bucks to the “Re-elect Joe Wilson” Campaign. Whether we live in South Carolina or not. That would certainly send a word to Washington, wouldn’t it? The problem is, no one would listen.

Get a grip…shouting out ‘You lie’ in a large gathering doesn’t show courage it shows a lack of class. Campaign aggressively, make an effort for change but don’t act like an 11 year old.
Joe Wilson from South Carolina, is just another good old boy where in the morning these married men preach to you that there should be prayer in our schools and in the evening they are on their cell phones setting up a date with their other women on the side, hypocrisy has been bred in. I am not surprised that he felt compel to yell like he was at some Friday night game. He is a hater not a debater like most of his side of the isle.
Do you mean like Slick Willy?
I sent my $20 to Joe. Yes, his outburst was a bit inappropriate. BUT I don’t think I could have sat there and listened to more of the same lies and not said anything either. ALL the republicans should have been on their feet booing…… do we only have one guy with the moxie to stand up for truth??? Obama needed to be called on his misrepresentations and Joe did it. Thank you Joe.
My husband and I also sent in a donation to Joe Wilson. It’s difficult for anyone with integrity to stay silent when lies are being told. If we couldn’t watch Obama’s speech without screaming at the television then we don’t blame Rep. Wilson for speaking out either.
When your country & your liberties are being jerked right out from under you almost by the day.. you don’t need “class”, you need Courage.. like the sincere passion demonstrated by the Tea Party grass roots Americans. Likewise, the political breath of fresh air, freshman Representative Joe Wilson.. AFAIC, Joe was the most honest man in the room.. while the rest of the oh so proper GOP sat there like whipped puppies. I’m not from SC, but I will be contributing to Joe Wilson’s re-election fund.
