Representative Anthony Weiner, D-NY was on the MSNBC  ‘Morning Joe’ show with Joe Scarborough yesterday morning.  And he put his views on Obamacare flatly on the table.

Weiner said that he will not bend on the Public Plan option.  He also asserts that, “Healthcare is not a commodity”.

As quoted on HotAir.com:

The key points come at 2:31, 4:44, 5:15, and 7:15, but the 5:15 is when the light dawns for Scarborough. Jazz Shaw transcribes the moment:

S: It sounds like you’re saying you think there is no need for us to have private insurance in health care.

W: I’ve asked you three times. What is their value? What are they bringing to the deal?

S: Again… I’m astounded by your question. It sounds like you’re suggesting that there’s no need to have a country that’s run on free market principles.

W: Time out. Let’s focus on one thing at a time. This isn’t a commodity, Joe. Health care isn’t a commodity.

S: You’re saying that health care is different than everything else.

W: Health care is not a commodity.

S: But you are making the conservatives’ point. You are making the point of the people at the town hall meetings who say this is Barack Obama’s opportunity to get rid of private health care and turn it completely over to the government. I’m sitting here stunned, saying Oh My God, you’re making the point of the health care protesters.

W: If Barack Obama doesn’t want to do it, I want to do it.

I wonder how many other congress people actually agree with this guy; but are too mired in doublespeak to admit to it.

Ed Morrissey goes on to offer his own analysis:

Of course health care is a commodity. Weiner wants to use this populist pet phrase, which goes along with the notion of a “right” to health care, but it’s absurd. Food is a commodity, water is a commodity, clothing and shelter are commodities. Until cap-and-trade came up in the House, air was not a commodity, but carbon dioxide will shortly become one, even though life itself cannot exist without it. People have to produce the goods and services that comprise the health-care industry, which means that the supplies are finite and they expect to get compensated for their work. That makes it a commodity, regardless of Weiner’s socialist rhetoric. Anything with a cost is a commodity, by definition.

Anyone who doesn’t understand that much about economics has no business creating policy.

This pretty much shows the main problem with the government having a say in almost anything!  They stick their noses in Baseball, tobacco, nutrition and now health care.   What in the world does a bunch of hack lawyers know about nutrition??  But, they feel that once they decree it, it is law.  So obviously, they MUST know what they are talking about, right?  Riiight.

Now, do we want these people to dictate to us what medical treatment we qualify for?  These know-nothings who are in thrall to and at the mercy of their fiscal supporters like the AFL-CIO, SEIU and worse?!

An article in the HuffPo yesterday has this bit:

One of the country’s most prominent union officials is warning that big labor may pull its support from Democrats who don’t fight for a government-run insurance plan.

In an interview with the Huffington Post on Saturday, Richard Trumka, the secretary-treasurer and likely next president of the AFL-CIO, said his federation is drawing a line in the sand when it comes to a public option in the health care bill. Lawmakers who don’t support the provision, he said, shouldn’t take anything for granted.

“We’ll look at every one of their votes,” Trumka said after his speech at the Netroots Nation convention. “If they’re against the Employee Free Choice Act, if they’re against health care for that reason, I think it’ll be tough for them to get support from working people.”

Trumka’s remarks were echoed privately by several other labor officials at the convention in Pittsburgh. In particular, the emerging Senate Finance Committee plan – which seems unlikely to contain a public option and could end up taxing pricey health care packages – seems almost guaranteed to incite the unions.

So.  It will be interesting (and devastatingly frightening) to see how the Congress of Evil and ‘He Who Must Not Be Named’ will handle this.

Actually, I think the bottom line is they are all Weiners.
